Will other firms 'fall' in line?

Autumn money fall bonusWho says Biglaw is slumping? Sure, *some* firms have laid off associates or delayed the start date for newbies, but Quinn Emanuel is bringing back the salary wars!

Today the firm announced special fall bonuses for associates. They start at a few thousand dollars for junior associates billing between 2000 and 2099 hours and the scale goes up to $32,908 for senior associates billing a boatload of hours  (2700+).

Take a look at the full scale, as reported by Law.com:

For those billing under 2000 hours,  bonuses will be “reduced proportionally.”

These special bonuses aren’t typical — at Quinn or other firms. But 2023 is a good year at the firm.

The special fall bonuses are “unusual for us, although there have been times in the past where we’ve distributed additional bonuses,” said firm founder and partner John Quinn. “The firm is having a fabulous year…We could not have accomplished what we accomplished without the dedication and intelligence and talent of our associates, and we wanted to share some of the bounty with them.”

Congrats to Quinn associates — let’s see what other firms decide to match.
