Freshfields Moves To New Office, Announces New Attendance Policy

Starting in May, U.S. Freshfields lawyers will be expected to work from the office four days each week.

Worried young businesswoman working at officeFresh off adopting a “one-size-fits-all” office policy for partners and associates alike, Freshfields has made another announcement to welcome New York attorneys to its new space at 3 World Trade Center: with the new turf will come a new hybrid work policy.

Come May 1, fee earners at Freshfields, including partners, associates, and legal assistants, among others, will be expected to spend four days working at the office each week. As noted by the American Lawyer, the firm has not yet announced the specifics for what in-office schedules will look like for other staff and business services team members.

Freshfields — which took home $2,276,264,000 gross revenue in 2022, putting it at No. 17 on the 2023 Global 100 — now joins the following firms that have announced four-day in-office work policies: Davis Polk; Ropes & Gray; Simpson Thacher; Skadden Arps; Vinson & Elkins; and Weil Gotshal.

How is your firm mandating (or not) in-office attendance? As soon as you find out about office attendance plans at your firm, please email us (subject line: “[Firm Name] Office Reopening”) or text us at (646) 820-8477. We always keep our sources on stories anonymous. There’s no need to send a memo (if one exists) using your firm email account; your personal email account is fine. If a memo has been circulated, please be sure to include it as proof; we like to post complete memos as a service to our readers. You can take a photo of the memo and attach as a picture if you are worried about metadata in a PDF or Word file. Thanks.
