Following a four-day trial, a US federal judge ruled on Friday that North Dakota’s 2021 legislative redistricting plan violates the Voting Rights Act of 1965 (VRA) because it dilutes the voting power of Native American voters. The case is in the US District Court for the District of North Dakota. Chief Judge Peter D. Welte authored the opinion of the court.

Judges at the International Court of Justice, also known as the World Court, ordered Azerbaijan on Friday to let ethnic Armenians who fled Nagorno-Karabakh in September return to their homes, and to keep the Armenians remaining in the enclave safe, as part of a set of emergency measures. The court said that the Republic of Azerbaijan has committed to certain obligations as per the International Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination.

German police, through order of the Federal Ministry of the Interior (BMI), raided the Islamic Center of Hamburg (IZH) and five other organizations, saying the groups were pro-Hezbollah and support the Hezbollah’s activities on Thursday. Authorities say the other organizations are subsidiaries of IZH. The raid involved police forces from several regions, and 54 objects were seized and evaluated by the federal security authorities.

Syria’s president Bashar al-Assad issued a decree on Thursday (Legislative Decree No 36 of 2023) granting amnesty for certain crimes committed before the decree was issued, subject to conditions. Judge Muhammad Eid Baloza announced that 350 prisoners in Damascus have been released under the decree as of Saturday. The decree stated that misdemeanors and violations will be pardoned.
