Susman Godfrey Partner's Sterling Resume, High Billable Hours Inspire Jokes At Judiciary Committee Hearing

At least this newly confirmed judge has a sense of humor about these things.

I’m not sure about the exact billables, but I’m sure I’ve worked more than 1,000 hours because my wife… we uh… we’ve had conversations about that.

— Arun Subramanian, who will be sworn in as the first South Asian-American to serve on the Southern District of New York’s bench after his recent confirmation, in response to a question about billables from Senator John Kennedy (R-LA) during his nomination hearing. Kennedy, after glancing over Subramanian’s resume, jokingly asked if the judicial candidate had ever “[gotten] a B.” The Susman Godfrey partner said, “I’m sure I have,” which inspired Kennedy to gasp “oh my gosh” in disbelief.
