In the years to come, law schools across the country are sure to feature classes on the criminal investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 election meant to sway the results in favor of Donald Trump. Plenty of law professors have already offered seminars on the inquiry derided by Trump as the “single greatest Witch Hunt in American history,” but who better to teach such a course than Robert Mueller himself, the man who led the investigation?

UVA Law recently announced that this coming fall, Mueller will return to his alma mater to teach a six-session class called “The Mueller Report and the Role of the Special Counsel,” where they’ll discuss the investigation with students. Three members of his prosecutorial team — Aaron Zebley, Jim Quarles, and Andrew Goldstein — will assist him in teaching the course, and Mueller said he hopes to bring in more prosecutors as guest speakers.

The course will focus on a key set of decisions made during the special counsel’s investigation. Instructors will talk about the legal and practical context for those decisions in a discussion format, and walk through the challenges and trade-offs when making decisions in a high-profile investigation.

The course will start chronologically with the launch of the investigation, including Mueller’s appointment as special counsel. Other sessions will focus on navigating the relationship with the Justice Department and Congress, investigative actions relating to the White House and the importance of the Roger Stone prosecution. The final sessions will focus on obstruction of justice, presidential accountability and the role of special counsel in that accountability.

When the course was announced yesterday, Mueller said, “I was fortunate to attend UVA Law School after the Marine Corps, and I’m fortunate to be returning there now. I look forward to engaging with the students this fall.”

Get ready, law students, because it’s Mueller time! Those who enroll in the course will have the opportunity to learn about an important part of recent American history straight from the source, and that experience will be priceless.
