Fordham Law School Grad Looking To Marry Into Royal Family

Well, this is certainly one way to kick off post-graduation life. As the graduating class of 2021 prepares to take the bar exam, one Fordham graduate eyeing the July test is also looking ahead to marrying into one of the oldest monarchies in the world.

Kei Komuro, a former paralegal turned Fordham grad is the fiancé of Princess Mako of Japan. Princess Mako’s father, Crown Prince Akishino is the younger brother of current Emperor Naruhito and serves as the heir presumptive for those of you Property Law nerds out there. Japanese law requires Mako to give up her royal title upon marrying a commoner. She will be the ninth woman from the royal family to marry a commoner and leave the royal line since Japan set out the law governing the modern royal family in 1947.

The wedding was delayed in 2018, but despite studying for the NY bar exam, Komuro issued a statement in April confirming plans to marry the princess. Per Japan Times, “Crown Prince Akishino has said he approves of the couple’s marriage but suggested it has to be welcomed by a so-far skeptical public.”

I guess every royal-watching society invents a Meghan Markle.
