A new NCSC report written by Sajed Naseem, Court Information Security Officer, New Jersey Courts, Jannet A. Okazaki, Principal Court Management Consultant, NCSC, and Barbara Holmes, Principal Court Management Consultant, NCSC was released last month.

A report prepared under a State Justice Institute (SJI) grant defines actionable cybersecurity measures that courts should implement to protect information.

The report advises that "before using this standard, courts should implement an information classification system (or policy) which should categorize all information according to the courts’ legal and state standards (e.g. public, administrative, confidential), as there will be different cybersecurity needs for confidential information versus public information."

It continues with recommendations for a management and leadership structure including a Cybersecurity Governance Committee and to develop a Risk Register.  There are additional excellent ideas.

The full report in PDF is available in the NCSC online library at: https://ncsc.contentdm.oclc.org/digital/collection/facilities/id/243/rec/1
