Donald Trump Asking Random Hotel Guests For Lawyers

The top-notch due diligence we've come to expect.

Come on, man. Avvo is right there!

According to a book excerpt from Michael Wolff’s newest book, Landslide: The Final Days of the Trump Presidency (affiliate link), Donald Trump is fully aware of the legal mess he’s in — you know, the one where his longtime accountant kept a second set of books — and even more painfully aware that he’s surrounded himself with some of the least credible lawyers in the country. And that’s why he’s on the hunt for new legal representation and doing his meticulous vetting by… asking randos at his club.

Per Business Insider:

In it, Wolff says that as of this past spring Trump had no “real” lawyers working with him, “going so far as to ask random visitors if they know any good ones” to help with the many legal threats looming over him.

As you might imagine, Trump’s spokesperson branded this as “fake news” because that’s what comes out when you pull the string on anyone in his orbit.

Wolff has gotten flack for his work in the past, but it’s hard to argue with the fact that the lawsuit=happy Trump camp couldn’t bring themselves to file suit against his last big expose, firing off a lazy C&D before walking away. So… just consider those grains of salt when parsing through who to believe here.

But if this did happen, who exactly did Trump think he was going to find? The Mar-a-Lago crowd seems more like where you’d hunt for a securities or tax lawyer. Do Mar-a-Lago members end up in criminal court a lot more than we think?
